Despite the progress we’ve made in medicine and technology, unexpected birth defects continue to affect countless individuals around the world. While some are met with love and acceptance, others face discrimination due to their differences. This extends beyond humans, as animals can also be subject to such circumstances. Take Skipper, for instance – a unique puppy born with an extra set of legs and two tails, who unfortunately was rejected by her mother.
Neel Veterinary Hospital shared the miraculous story of Skipper, an Australian Shepherd and Collie mix born in Oklahoma on February 16. While her eight siblings were healthy, Skipper was born with several congenital conditions that made her unique. Her mother abandoned her, and she was taken to the hospital for proper medical care. The hospital believes that Skipper is the first dog of her kind to survive and has called her a “miracle.” The veterinarians believe that Skipper’s situation occurred because an egg in her mother’s womb was likely to split into twins but did not succeed entirely. Despite facing such challenges and having duplicate organs from her waist down, Skipper is doing well thanks to her resilience and timely medical treatment.
Skipper, the adorable puppy, is receiving an abundance of love and support from numerous people. Although some individuals are still worried about her well-being, her caregivers have confirmed that she is thriving and free from any discomfort or pain. Hence, there is no need to fret about her current condition.
As for her future, Neel Veterinary Hospital has revealed on its Facebook page that they do not intend to euthanize Skipper as she appears to be content and pain-free. The veterinarians anticipate that she will lead a happy and complete life, despite being clueless about what lies ahead for the furry friend. In essence, they are ready to embark on a journey with Skipper, come what may.
Neel Veterinary Hospital has set up a Facebook page to keep Skipper’s fans updated. The page already has over 55,000 followers! Don’t forget to share this amazing story about Skipper with your family and friends.
